Career
When Rantanen was sixteen, he played for HC TPS in the 2012–13 season, marking his professional debut in the Finnish SM-liiga. Rantanen began playing for TPS at the under-16 level when he was just 14 years old. He scored three points, two goals, and one assist in 15 games.
On October 9, 2014, Rantanen, who was the only 17-year-old to play in his third season with TPS going into the 2014–15 season, agreed to a two-year contract extension to stay with the Liiga team. Rantanen, who also served as an alternate captain, scored a career-high nine goals and 28 points in 56 games by employing his large body and muscular play.
In the postseason, he also played for the TPS junior club, scoring 14 points in 7 games to help win the title. For his efforts, he was named the team’s Best Player.
