Career
During his rookie year at Georgia in 2019, Pickens was given playing time right away and led the team in receptions (49), receiving yards (727), and receiving touchdowns (8).
In an eight-game season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic the following season, Pickens caught 36 catches for 513 yards and a team-high six touchdowns.
Pickens missed the majority of his junior season due to an ACL tear in the spring of 2021. Even though he only caught five passes in his final four games of the season, he made a pivotal 52-yard reception in the first quarter of Georgia’s victory over Alabama in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship. Georgia entered Alabama territory for the first time throughout the game thanks to the catch, which also gave the Bulldogs a short field goal. After the season, Pickens declared for the 2022 NFL draft.
In the 2022 NFL Draft, Pickens was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round (52nd overall).
He started his first game as a professional when the Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23–20. He caught one ball on three targets for three yards. Pickens successfully made a one-handed catch while putting his entire body in the air during a Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns. Some referred to it as the “Catch of the Year.” He has six receptions for 102 yards in the 24–20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 4.
