Career
Plaza has trained and performed improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater since 2004. She has also appeared at the Laugh Factory and The Improv. Plaza cited Amy Poehler as an inspiration for her decision to pursue improvisation.
She praised her experience at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre as “intoxicating,” saying, It just truly felt like we were in an underground – literally, underground – theatre doing an art form that is so fucking hard, but so fun when you get it right.”
While in film school, she interned at Saturday Night Live for the 2004-2005 season, and another as an NBC page, where she appeared in an episode of 30 Rock in 2006.
While Plaza was in Los Angeles filming Funny People and Parks and Recreation, Allison Jones suggested she audition for Edgar Wright’s romantic action movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010). Plaza was cast in the film as the supporting character Julie Powers.
Plaza took part in A Night of 140 Tweets: A Celebrity Tweetathon for Haiti, which was produced by Rob Huebel, Paul Scheer, Ben Stiller, and Mike Rosenstein and held at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles.
