Career
During the 1985–1986 season, Ball made his collegiate basketball debut at West Los Angeles College in the Western State Conference. Ball broke the school record with 316 rebounds during his rookie campaign. He scored 33 points and pulled out 18 rebounds versus Porterville College in the 1986 season opener. He averaged 22.2 points and 12.0 rebounds during the 1986–1987 campaign. After that, Ball moved to Washington State, an NCAA Division I school, and started as a forward. However, he only averaged 2.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game in 26 games for the Cougars.
Ball played with three of his four brothers at Cal State Los Angeles, which participated in the NCAA Division II, after transferring once again after one season. Ball made the All-CCAA first team in 1989–1990 after averaging 15.8 points and 8.9 rebounds.
Ball eventually returned to football after being invited to a tryout after graduating from college. He played tight end for Long Beach City College for one season after completing his collegiate basketball career. Ball joined the National Football League (NFL) on May 1, 1994, as a defensive end for the New York Jets.
On March 7, 1995, Ball rejoined the Jets as a tight end, but the same year he was sent straight to the World League of American Football (WLAF) London Monarchs. Ball recorded 28 yards in kick returns despite having zero catches during the 1995 season for the Monarchs. “Garbage” is how his teammate Kenny McEntyre described Ball.
