Career
Since 2001, Tasmania’s Evidence Act has banned the publication of information that could identify survivors of sexual assault. This effectively stopped Tame and other survivors from sharing their stories in public, even though Tame’s abuser boasted about his offences on social media. The case of Tame resulted in journalist and advocate for sexual assault survivors, Nina Funnell, collaborating with Tame to develop the #LetHerSpeak campaign. This initiative, in conjunction with Marque Lawyers and End Rape on Campus Australia, aims to abolish this law as well as a comparable one in the Northern Territory.
The campaign garnered worldwide backing from notable figures such as Alyssa Milano, Tara Moss, and John Cleese, as well as leaders of the MeToo movement.
In August 2019, Tame spoke out for the first time after the campaign secured a court order on her behalf through the Supreme Court of Tasmania, which exempted her from the gag law. In Tasmania, she became the first woman who had survived sexual assault to obtain a court order allowing her to discuss her experience.

Following the #LetHerSpeak campaign spearheaded by Funnell and featuring Tame, Tasmania’s Attorney-General Elise Archer declared in October 2019 that there would be amendments to legislation permitting sexual assault survivors to speak publicly.
Archer announced intended modifications to the phrasing of the crime, pointing out that “the word relationship has connotations of consent”. The legislation was amended in April 2020 to permit Tasmanian survivors to voice their experiences.
