Career
Miller joined the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) U.S. NTDP at the start of the 2009–10 campaign. He played in the program for two seasons until the New York Rangers selected him in the first round of the 2011 NHL entry draft, 15th overall. Miller agreed to play major junior ice hockey with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Plymouth Whalers the next day.
Miller was eligible to join the Connecticut Whale, the Rangers’ American Hockey League (AHL) club, as a teenager because he was drafted by the team from the USHL. After his first major junior season ended, he joined the Whale for their run in the 2012 Calder Cup playoffs. In the Whale’s 3–2 overtime victory over the Norfolk Admirals in Game 1, he got his first professional point and an assist.
He had one goal in eight games at the end of the AHL playoffs. Miller was promoted to the Rangers roster for the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs after the Whale were eliminated, although he didn’t play a single game.
January 31, 2025. In exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 2025 first-round pick, Miller and Erik Brännström were transferred back to the New York Rangers.
