At Arlington Middle School, Rivers played the tuba in a band, which was a rather early start to his musical career. John Otto, who played drums in the jazz style, was the one who first introduced him to music.
Many had claimed that Rivers was a cousin of Otto; however, Rivers said in a documentary about the band’s second album recording that they had initially believed they were cousins until realizing their parents were unrelated.
Bishop Kenny High School was his school. At the recommendation of his music teacher, he began playing guitar before switching to bass.

Career
While working at a Chick-fil-A at a Jacksonville mall, Rivers got to know Fred Durst. After striking up a conversation, the two discovered they had a number of things in common, such as music and skating. They made the decision to meet for a jam session.
Durst was to sing, while Rivers was developing into a skilled bassist. They founded the short-lived band Malachi Sage with a number of other individuals.
Rivers’ guitar skills would eventually be used in Limp Bizkit’s Results May Vary album, which is the only one without veteran guitarist Wes Borland. Rivers plays both guitar and bass on a few tracks, including “Creamer” and “Lonely World.
After the band failed, the two made the decision to try again, and at Rivers’ suggestion, Otto joined the band as drummer. The trio founded Limp Bizkit in 1994. Later, in 1996, Borland and DJ Lethal joined the group. Rivers was the band’s youngest member. He was 19 years old when their debut album, Three Dollar Bill, Yall, came out.
According to reports, Rivers left Limp Bizkit in 2015 after receiving a degenerative disc disease diagnosis. However, Rivers disclosed in 2020 that he left Limp Bizkit because of liver damage brought on by binge drinking. After that, Rivers got a liver transplant. Samuel Gerhard Mpungu filled in as live bassist in absentia, and Tsuzumi Okai.

Rivers became a producer for local bands in Jacksonville after Limp Bizkit took a break. He produced Burn Season’s and The Embraced’s debut albums. Rivers has most recently been a producer for the band Indorphine, which is headquartered in Orlando. In addition to creating their new studio music, Rivers secured them a show opening slot for Mushroomhead/SOiL. Due to scheduling conflicts, he declined an invitation to participate in Christian Olde Wolbers’ Arkaea project.
