In December 2014, Yan made his MMA debut at the Eurasian Fighting Championship-Baikal Fight. He defeated another rookie, Murad Bakiev, via third-round knockout. Yan inked a deal with Absolute Championship Berkut, a Russian organization, in 2015. Following his debut with the company, where he faced Brazilian boxer Renato Velame, who at the time had 26 fights under his belt, he was reported to have amassed a large following.
