Career

At the age of seven, Norris won pole position in his first national race, launching his racing career. In 2013, Norris participated in the KF-Junior class and won the WSK Euro Series, the CIK-FIA International Super Cup, and the CIK-FIA European Championship. The following year, he and Ricky Flynn Motorsport became the youngest karting world champions in the KF class when they won the CIK-FIA World Championship.

In the Ginetta Junior Championship, a feeder series to the British Touring Car Championship, Norris made his motorsport debut in 2014. He won four races, took home the Rookie Cup, and finished third in the championship.

Norris traveled to New Zealand in January 2016 to play for the M2 Competition team in the Toyota Racing Series. He won the title before Jehan Daruvala and had six race victories, including the New Zealand Grand Prix. After that, Norris went back to Europe to compete in the Eurocup and Northern European Cup with Josef Kaufmann Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 class.

In the latter, he achieved ten consecutive pole positions and won both series, totaling eleven race victories. [Reference required] Norris started competing in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship on a part-time basis at the same time, winning four of his eleven races.

McLaren was the clear favorite to win the championship going into 2025, and Norris said he had gained “a lot of lessons” from his attempt to win the World Drivers’ Championship. In wet circumstances, he held off teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen to win the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and take the lead in the championship. He finished second behind Piastri in the main race after placing seventh in the Chinese Grand Prix sprint. Verstappen cut his title lead to one point when he finished second in Japan.

After qualifying sixth, saying he felt “clueless” in the MCL39, and getting penalized for a start violation, Norris finished third at the Bahrain Grand Prix, extending his title lead over Piastri by three points. Recovering from tenth place to fourth place and falling behind Piastri in the rankings, Norris crashed out of qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

After a duel with Verstappen, he finished second to Piastri in the main race, but he won the Miami Grand Prix sprint thanks to a late safety car that allowed him to pass Piastri with a shorter pit stop. He went on to win the Grand Prix in Monaco.
