Career
In 2018, Luna made the decision to run for Congress. In September 2019, she entered the Republican primary for the 13th congressional district of Florida, and in November 2019, Matt Gaetz gave her his endorsement. Charlie Kirk, Elise Stefanik, Students for Trump, and former Mayor Bill Foster of St. Petersburg, Florida, also endorsed her. She and her spouse bought a home in St. Petersburg, close to MacDill Air Force Base, where her husband was assigned, in July 2020. In the general election, incumbent Democrat Charlie Crist defeated Luna, who had won the Republican primary.
Whitney Fox, a moderate Democrat and former director of communications for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, competed against Luna in the general election. Fox received 45% of the vote, while Luna received 55%, making her the sole Florida house seat within striking reach for Democrats.
